Every autumn singes with the business of sadness

Read the Printed Word!

I’m going to take a little tumblr hiatus

I have to send my computer away to have its motherboard fixed (or whatever it’s called, sounds like a spaceship to me) which will take up to a couple of weeks I think. School is done for me, except for a few exams, and I need to take a much needed break from my computer.

I want to leave you with a couple of thoughts. I’m not sure if my thoughts or opinions or of any value, but I enjoy sharing them and knowing that sometimes they are read.

Do not be ashamed of your interests. I’m mostly referring to things such as music, writers, style and content of writing, movies, fashion sense. I frequently get the sense that a lot of us are much too reserved about the things we enjoy or appreciate (movies that make us laugh, songs we can’t help but click replay on because they strike something in us) for fear that someone will make a snarky comment about it being cliche or over-exposed or un-original, etc. Other people’s opinions really don’t matter. They can be valuable and provide a different insight, but when it comes to what you enjoy, they really do not matter. I like to think of my blog as a collection of my interests, a collection of things that make me happy or that I identify with. This tumblr is by no means a solid representation of everything that I am, but it’s like a scrapbook for me. I love scrolling through old posts, marveling at the way my interests and preferences have evolved over time. Sometimes I catch myself thinking “If I reblog this it won’t look good on my blog, people will think of me differently, does this really fit with my blog’s image” and so on.

I’m going to end up rambling, but I hope someone reads this and understands what I’m trying to say. Express yourself as freely as you feel comfortable on here. Other people’s opinions on this website shouldn’t be taken all that seriously, in the end. (Generally speaking).

Ok au revoir for a short while! Cross your fingers for my being able to function this weekend and I’ll be back soon to share funny things my Nana said and possibly pictures of any NHL-ers that I can casually lurk. The usual.

Tea is my strongest ally

"Facebook does massive surveillance. If there is a ‘like’ button in a page, Facebook knows who visited that page. And it can get IP address of the computer visiting the page even if the person is not a Facebook user. So you visit several pages that have ‘like’ button and Facebook knows that you visited all of those, even if it doesn’t really know who you are…"

This weekend

I’m going to Ottawa for the weekend with my family. My Dad’s organization does an All Star breakfast every year on the Saturday morning. Breakfast and hockey are two incredibly divine things and, when combined, make me very happy. I’m still feeling horrible but the people my Dad works with are like my family and everyone will be there, from all over Canada and the States so I’m determined to push through this pain and enjoy seeing people. (Did I mention there will be breakfast). I’m a little annoyed because my family is driving over tomorrow but I have an exam Friday morning so my Nana and I are going Friday afternoon. I wasn’t going to be too unhappy about that since my Dad said we could go on the train, but now we’re flying because it’s cheaper and faster. I feel kind of silly taking a plane from Toronto to Ottawa. And I love taking the train, sigh.
We’re supposed to skate the canal and I have no idea how I’m going to pull that off. My doctor insisted I should rent one of those sled things to push along while I skate and then someone can push me on it if I get tired. Can’t say I’m looking forward to looking like someone who doesn’t know how to skate, but I’ve done the Rideau once before and it was fun. ALSO beaver tails.
Other things to look forward to:
  • My nana is bringing kobasa
  • Hockey players
  • ALL MY FAVOURITE PEOPLE
  • Kobasa and hockey players
